The 100 Gates Project.
What started as a passion project by two street artists in 2014 turned professional this summer when the LES Business Improvement District began connecting local artists with neighborhood businesses to transform their roll-down security gates into one-of-a-kind murals.
Nearly 70 gates have been transformed with unique facades, with a few dozen lined up for a facelift next year.
Each artist received a $300 stipend to cover materials and time, but most of them did it for the love of sharing art.
You can find a guide to all of the gates here, so be sure to take a self-led tour the next time you’re in Manhattan’s LES!
